If you think about it, some of those people had to risk their lives by crossing the US/Mexican border illegally just to make for a better life. Once in the US they look for work like showing up at Office Depot for odd jobs coz they may not have legal papers. Yet those born stateside rather camp on the streets and wait for hand outs instead of learning how to make their own money. Just imagine if they did that we would probably have less homeless people in the US. Update: This post should not include our homeless that have mental, and drug addiction issues. They should get help first. Also doesn't apply to our US veterans, personally they should be given opportunities by our government and etc. Finally criminals and sex offenders. I hope that is all of them. This post should apply to the sorry ass lazy bums that are still quite fit to work.
Conservative spotted. Why just be sick when you can be awesome instead? Anyone who ls not lazy will find a job if only they look.
The homelessness problem is not just a single generic cause of not working. Many are in the situation because of weird edge cases in the current system for example: -bad divorce proceedings that ultimately bankrupted them -outrageous child support /alimony that’s keeping them perpetually broke /behind bars -unable to find jobs because of previous police reports -the emotional burden of the whole world against you. (Pain/suffering can be relative in a sense but everyone feels theirs is the worst pain/suffering in the moment. People crossing the border probably fear some crazy issues so to them working odd jobs might be a better situation, while for the North American might feel like all hope is lost) -substance addiction. Some people go towards using substances to keep alive and this might become hard/dangerous to break out of…let alone get a job with -many just want to opt out of the system and rather just do their own thing after a long period of being homeless. -finally you might have the recently homeless who knew the importance of working etc, these people might be able to be helped in the way you mentioned. These are just my 2 cents based on talking to numerous homeless people across North America
Homeless people often have drug and/or mental health problems. It’s not that easy
It’s not that easy. Many homeless are mentally unwell and can’t even do odd jobs. There are others who don’t have the skill. And others that simply don’t want to work due to drug and alcohol addictions.
The fact that this type of perspective is regularly posted on blind, "why don't homeless people just go get jobs" "why don't we just ship all the homeless people off to their own town" Is super disturbing. Please attempt to understand society outside of your bubble
Plenty of free housing and food in the army. And free health care and student loan forgiveness after certain servicing period. And they always looking for more people
Poor people with drug addictions are fucked in America. If you or the company doesn’t want to break the law(and possibly make you a felon aka even more unemployable) you’re fucked. Want to “just get a job”? Good luck without… - family support/money to pay init costs - Bank Account - Address to put down as a “place of residence” - Clean clothes and hygiene - Transportation to job - Support for addiction to prevent relapse - Possible drug related charges or other criminal records - Don’t have ID and/or your SS card - Mental health services Theses people are sadly destined to continue to be poor unless something changes which won’t happen and they know that. That’s why most don’t even attempt to get better anymore they’ve fallen too far. Places like Norway which guarantees stable housing for them to look for a job is a much better solution.
Agree but reality is they make more begging by a lot
OP is definitely in Houston lol
most of the homeless people complain about have drug/alcohol problems Many other homeless people have a job, just not enough for them to have a place to live decently
