Hello Folks had my onsite last week for Engineering Manager(M2) FB London - the behavioral went extremly great , so was the system design - coding solved one optimally in time and second ran with a hint ( couple of them in fact ) from interviewer and finished. BUT...Product Design kind of messed up as the interviewer & me never synced and he dug deep into the API design which i guess was my mistake as i went into unwanted API specs and paid the price for it - and from then on it wasnt a round i was at my best and dint come out on top so what are my chances here ? YOE: 14 #facebook , #engineeringmanager #london#engineering #software
It’s going to be tough call. If all feedback was extremely positive, you can ask recruiter to schedule additional round for product design round..note you might think behaviorial went extremely good. But that might not be the case always. I was in similar boat, failed in coding round
Unless these guys were lying - it was very positive to the extent I was seeing some good signals - ( very good , interesting, nice way you had done that , it would be good to have you etc...) - I seriously hope they dint just spit that out ☺️
“Interesting” is not a positive thing! But I sincerely hope you have a positive feedback and may be additional round for product design! M2 in FB is a killer, you get paid tons of money
Until you get feedback - you really have no idea how your interviews went. I just had onsite with some company few weeks ago, in my observation all rounds went extremely well - 3 days later reject. The opposite is true - extremely serious interviewer could lead to very positive feedback, it happened to me as well.
I think you are right - “until feedback” m just trying to level set my expectations with blind’s experience :)
@felice did you interview for EM as well?
M2 is Senior Engineering Manager. Would be very surprised if FB interviewed you for M2 with 14 yoe. Maybe M1 Engineering Manager. How many ICs/Managers do you manage now ?
3 EM’s with a total team of 26
Are you a Director/MD ?
@mhUC40 (OP) did you hear back from your recruiter? If you had a bad interview they might level you as M1 instead of M2.
Well , yet to hear back - it was last Friday so I guess they are still collecting feedback - i might give them a week before following up
Good Luck!
Thanks dude
I wonder if D1 interview won't include a coding round.
Only 14 YOE and interview for M2? System design is important at that level. Probably rejection
Op, did you hear back on the result?
I was being interview for a Manager role at FB and there was one system design interview that didn’t go so well, honestly speaking the interviewer was much below what I would expect for FB standard. It was a “life and death situation in foreign country” I politely told the recruiter about the experience, I did not understood the scenario very well and failed to get the relevance for the role that I was applying. They decided to give me another round with someone else and definitely this time the scenario was clear to me. Don’t be afraid to ask the recruiter for another shot.
Did you get it afterwards?
Be sure to learn from this experience. I too had a no smile/tough attitude female interviewer during my design interview at FB, but I had to take it upon myself to turn it into a positive experience. I showed her how to design a Susano from scratch and she left the interview impressed and smiling. That's how I got the offer. Looks like you need to work on your skills and jitsus to stand out next time.
Right - lessons learned definitely- but are there current chances ? Is it like one reject out of 6 is a complete reject ?
it sounds like a reject to be honest. we always overestimate how we did.
