Facebook has been begging me for years to interview. I finally was took them up on their offer and got an interview scheduled. I weirdly had to provide detailed visa-related info upfront (usually this is after hire?), and then they suddenly rescinded my interview on visa grounds, even though their grounds are actually false? In a bit more detail: I'm currently on a TN, and would get another TN were I to change jobs. A couple years ago I had a J-1, and even though I am not subject to the 2-year home residency requirement (I don't meet any of the criteria in [1]), facebook demanded I provide either proof that I spent 2 years at home after J1 or got a waiver (I have neither). Furthermore, even if were subject to the 2 year home residency requirement (which I'm not), TN visa's can still be obtained, e.g. [2], [3]. I tried explaining this politely to the recruiter but they have since ghosted me. Has anyone experienced this before? Does this happen at other companies? This feels like discrimination to me as they are basically rejecting me on false grounds, even before I interview. Is there something I'm missing? Good job Meta๐
Lol @begging you for interview. They hound everyone. Hell they hound me and I've nothing to offer. And visa questions are common before hire.
Didnโt seem you were interested in them anyways so why is this bothering you?
@OP - same exact experience here recently - very, very odd & totally out of the blue! & I got ghosted too - how rude! Did they give you any insight as to WTH? Seems like there's a new policy @ Meta for TN's - but I don't get why it matters as they are saying remote work is A-oK for their workers and a fallback location can always be nearshored in Canada.
Never learned any new info and agree itโs totally weird as I could work in Canada as a fall backโฆ. Ah well. Gives me some comfort knowing Iโm not alone, ie itโs definitely them and not something on my end
Your DS2019 should show whether you are subject to 2-year rule or not.
It is basically blank on that section, border guard never filled it outโฆ. Presumably if I was they would have checked the box
Even you J-1 visa stamp have that information! I had j1 in past and my visa stamp had that information so had to get waiver!
