Had a coworker move to Tesla with their Firmware group from Apple and ended up back at Apple within half a year. He said it was a shit show and non stop hours. Decent pay though
If you like worked for drug addicted narcissist that spies on employees and even has the swat’ed.
Huge responsibility for Tesla Firmware guys. Bugs could be life or death. The worst case for apple is to reboot your phone.
I worked with people that did firmware at Tesla and also interviewed a lot that were trying to leave and asked why. The short version is that it's fun but intense and you'll need to deal with a lot of not too very firmwary things related to operations and factory. Substantially more of this than Apple to my understanding. Also what a lot of people at Tesla don't admit is that most firmware engineers want to be managers or Systems Engineers, so there's not much love for technical excellence or career growth opportunities in that path.
I generally wouldn't prefer working in Auto. U need to get bunch of certification for SW related to driving the car. It requires u to follow bunch of standards. Which slows down development of production code.
Lol you aren't legally required to follow anything. Tesla skips most of this. How do you think they ship so fast.
Most big car companies have their own process, but even at Tesla it's not as agile as consumer electronics.
Hell no
I do firmware stuff at Microsoft. It is not fun
nope
Curious about this. I skipped Tesla in addition to all the other Musk/Bezos companies in my latest firmware role search. Any reason you'd leave Apple firmware for Tesla?
