Been in blind for a while and most folks bragging their half mil TC are SDE/SDM I hardly see any data guy sharing TC fever higher than 250k If you do have TC => 250k can you tell me what you do and your YOE? Mine BIE for about YOE 6.5 TC 170 cash + around 200k FMV (probably halved right now) worth of options vesting over four years Overall I don’t see a lot of IC level data people earning more than 250+. Any thoughts? I’m trying to understand my best career path and maximize my monetization along the way. #data #dataanalytics #datascience #dataengineer
Data analyst with TC over $300k. It’s possible but you have to find the right roles and keep moving up. People think analysts are all junior ICs but not true
Not me but DS are paid 400k+ cash at Netflix, >250k TC for sr IC roles at meta, indeed, LinkedIn, atlassian etc
Instacart too
Disney streaming
Just look at levels.fyi to get a sense for this.
Levels is only good for SDE. It's not accurate for other roles.
You might not get the true median but I still think there is value in knowing which companies can even offer that level of salary
I’m at low to mid 300k as DS
ML or experimentation? And still at msft?
Both. I do anything that’s needed. Yes, still at Msft.
220k here, I do analytics/BI
I do similar stuff. 150k In La. I work for one of the boomer Companies though so low pay lol
Is Visa still hiring?
290k, Ds
Yoe? Location?
Even new grad DS are paid 250+
Where?
Lol no they're not. Unless you're talking about hedge funds.
Low 300 here at Meta
DS, DE, DA IC roles can be over this mark at 6+ years at FAANG. Maybe 8+ for non-FAANG but rare in pure IC tracks. This thread below should be helpful. Gives a good sense for data IC tracks but also gives perspective on growth Check out this post! "Data folks only, What is your core skills, title, base pay, TC, YOE and location. Following. It's hard to hit 250 as a BIE but I think it's more common as a DE.
I looked at some job posting for DEs and it seems nowadays they hire DEs to work more on data platform dev and I feel like the skills sets are more geared towards SDE/SWE. A few years ago when I started I still saw hiring for DEs to work on ETL ELT but is it a trend to transition to platform vs pipeline?
