Hello Blinders working at SAP/Concur. I am planning to visit my family in Australia and I am planning to visit them for a month. Are we allowed to take SAP issued laptop outside US? Any help is appreciated!
My coworker literally brought his laptop to India for a while, HR shouldn’t need to know. If you can do your work and access VPN it doesn’t make a difference as long as your manager is cool with it
That’s also a part of my question. Can we access VPN from another company?
If you plan to be outside US for more than 1 month, you need to take approval from HR n mobility as per policy. If less than 1 month, then manager approval is enuf. It may be possible to mix and match your holidays with work, so that you are within 1 month limit and you don't ask HR
Gotcha! I’ll ask the same question like I did for others if you don’t mind😅 Did you face any issues with VPN?
What you're asking in fact is: can you work from Australia? (because there should be no other reason to take work laptop with you, right?) That's an HR question, there are tax related implications, Australia probably has laws around how long you can work from there without work visa. I remember, at the beginning of the lockdown in 2020, my short trip to Europe was looking to turn into possibly longer than initially planned 2 weeks. HR basically told me I can return immediately however I can or take PTO for the duration or they will put me on unpaid leave.

Yes, I took it with me wherever I traveled and worked remotely but did tell my manager that I'm working from a different location to adjust for working hours.
Did you take permission from HR? Because I’m sure HR will most definitely say No. My manager is cool with it, but I’m in two minds if I should let HR know or not.
No SAP doesn't work like that, I never asked HR. I am aware that Deloitte doesn't allow people to even check emails but SAP is different.
