I have 3.5 YoE and am currently working for a Bank TC 81k which I find pretty low. I've been applying and got two offers Morgan Stanley SWE TC 110k Amazon L4 SDE1 TC 130-140k (still in team matching), would have to move to Toronto I'd like to remain in Montreal, but I don't seem to be able to find companies that will pay the amazon kind of money. Does anyone have any suggestions or possible #referral ? #canada #amazon #morganstanley
I would suggest to not take SDE1 role. Either negotiate for SDE2 L5 level or wait for another 6 months and re-apply There will be people at Amazon with 2-2.5 YOE already promoted to SDE2.
I was originally interviewing for the SDE2 position, but I blanked out for a while in the system design interview and that took me down to SDE1, they told me they saw a good chance of bringing me up to SDE2 in 6 months
If your TC is much lower. Then join and work hard there If you have time, please also chekc if there are relevant openings in other big companies in Toronto. Uber, Netflix, twitter, linkedin, Google.
Apply for remote US or Ontario companies. I understand that local MTL companies are not willing to pay high TC.
Ive done interviews at square and rippling and they would hire in QC. You could get a higher salary without moving
DM for VMware
Sap to morgan stanley? Pretty much same thing why would u jump?
Amazon was pretty much what you hear about online, 1 take home assessment, then conversation with HR, then 4 interviews where half the interview is leadership principles questions and the other half is leetcode easy or medium, then 1 system design interview. Morgan Stanley was a technical talk with the manager to see what you know/past projects if you're trying for electronic trading some pretty hardcore c++ questions, then 2 technical interviews where you talk to an engineer about yourself while solving leetcode easy questions.
110k for MS in Montréal seems pretty good, does it include bonus or just basic salary?
I am in Montréal as well
It includes bonus
If you would like to stay in financial world then try out Tower, squarepoint capital, drw in Mtl. They all pay way over the current market. I know someone close who is at Morgan also, just had an offer for 180k base + 40k sign on from tower. Morgan would slow your career growth down, it is for dinosaurs. Amazon, honestly we know a little too much already from Blind reviews here. Try out Shopify, Facebook (both offer 100% remote roles). Invest more effort into the process, and trust yourself to make the best out of it! You can dm me for more info on shopify, i recently accepted an offer from Mtl as well.
What is shopify willing to pay these days?
Are you open to remote?
Yes!
