Lots of layoffs this week!
Can someone from Canva tell me about Canva's paid paternity leave for Software Engineers in Australia? How many weeks do they give? Is it available for non primary caregiver? What are the conditions to get it? Is there a minimum tenure? Is it subject to manager discretion? In return, I can answer questions about Atlassian to people who answer these questions
One extra benefit with Canva is that if you take at least 12 weeks of parental leave (out of 18) in one go, you get to work only 60% for the first four weeks you're back. I'm not sure why but it's great.
Thank you! Atlassian does something similar but for less weeks as far as I recall
18 weeks. Available to non-primary caregiver, no minimum tenure, not subject to manager discretion. Available for two years after the birth date. Can also be taken piecemeal, so you can take half when the birth happens and then sprinkle the rest out over that two year period. Some companies offer more (KPMG does 26 weeks) but often attach conditions as to how the leave can be used. It’s pretty good and I’ve taken it myself. Never had issues with any of my coaches about how I chose to take it or using it to do part time. It’s honestly one of the benefits that have retained me and kept me loyal to the company. I could not have imagined being able to be the father and husband my wife needed during that time working at some telco with my useless two weeks of parental leave. No need for Atlassian policy. Been there done that and not going back.
Atlassian policy is not as good? Or that Atlassian is generally not as good of a place to work
Atlassian policy is good. I’m just not interested in working there again so no trade needed. lol.
