Should I move to the US from Germany

Hello Folks, 13 YOE (10 India +3 Germany). In India I was working in an IT services company (IBM/Infosys) and didn't have much savings. I am eligible for permanent residency in Germany and also got an offer from the management to relocate to Seattle, US. No kids, Inheritance or house. Current TC : €125K and expected US TC: $250K+

You will be eligible for EB1, so that’s a fast way into Greencard. Earning wealth in US is easier than Germany, have kids in US and leave for India.

He said offer FROM the management, not offer FOR management.

He is eligible for EB1 through L1. He has already worked 1 year for same employer outside US - so he will enter with L1 in US.

125k€ in Germany > $250k in Seattle imo. But if you don’t speak much German you probably have a limited life in Germany. In that case the US might be a better option.

Yes and staying put is safer. Seattle is a hole.

I don’t agree that Seattle is a hole. It’s over all pretty nice but over all much more expensive than Germany and less culturally interesting.

Why you don’t have savings with that TC and no kids to provide

Amazon burned_ OP Feb 11

I am able to save here. I meant no savings from India. I am 37 and only saving 100K :(

SoundCloud cXkd8ogy3 Feb 11

100 k is not “no saving” lol

The quality of life on a like for like basis is better in Germany than in the US. But as a tech worker you might get access to massively inflated wages in the US. But SF and Seattle are not good places to live and no where near as cool or interesting as Berlin

How does job security and ability to get a new one at middle/senior levels compare?

Qualtrics Quexit Feb 11

Germany has great employee protections and a great work philosophy. It's also a very productive country, so you it's not like you won't be exposed to world class work practices. You will have access to promotions as well. But in the US you can make a shit load of money if you're in the right tech company at the right time. This can happen in The EU too, but in the US the money (if things go well) flows more freely

Germany is good. Integrate there and get residency. USA many feel is overrated and are returning to India or other countries now. You will be disappointed if you come here. From India to USA is a big change, but from Germany to USA it is similar.

Get your German citizenship first

Why?

Why not return home since you are with Amazon? Your salary will be decent and your money will go farther.

What level is your German? Don’t you need it for PR?

A1. For PR you need Blue card + 33 Months+ A1 or Blue Card + 21 Months + B1
