Programmers are the smartest people in the world
First time home buyer - SFH in bay area Realtor hooked us up with ADT agent. We feel the ADT packages offered to us are too expensive (basic package $45, with app $55, with video surveillance $65) Wanted to know 1. Do you have video surveillance? Is it useful/needed? 2. What security service you use? How much do you pay monthly? Household TC: $400k #housing #sanfrancisco #bayarea #homesecurity
Video surveillance means they are monitoring your camera for you? If not then just use Ring or Simplisafe, get the camera and install/monitor yourself.
Video surveillance comes in two forms I think. ADT provides the video surveillance where there is someone looking at the trigger events and intercepting it. But mostly it is the self monitoring that's the fastest way and what folks want
1. Yes and yes 2. No
OP checkout ring (I do not have one myself but that's really getting popular right now)
I use Ring and still on their grandfathered plan $100 yearly. I have multiple ring cameras and also have some other non ring cameras. Only problem with Ring is, it doesn’t work with Apple homekit if you care about it. ADT is a thug company. Search for ADT experience in Reddit.
Thanks! Is this self monitored?
Professionally monitored. BTW, you probably have to open an account with local PD for a fee in most of Bay Area cities, otherwise your alarm will not be prioritized and you will get fined for any false alarm.
Just get blink/ring camera which has motion detection . Buy 256 gb flash drive to store videos locally. That’s all you need . On deal u can get 5 out door blink caberas for 180-200 $ . U can access locally stored videos via app from anywhere so no need for cloud subscription either .
Google Nest cameras with 24/7 video recording. They have a nice floodlight model I just installed. Cover all possible entrances and you're good to go.
Thanks, how much do you pay? Did you buy the cameras?
I bought the cameras and had various handymen install them over the years since it's powered inside and goes through drywall. One is outside garage door underneath overhang so sun doesn't hit it. I think it's $120 a year for 10 days of video history 24/7. Unlimited cameras just depends on how much upload bandwidth you want to burn. Cover your backdoor, front door, and garage door and you put cameras inside too.
Get a DIY system that works with a monitoring company. Nest for example has full monitoring through Brinks for $20/month, or you can self monitor for nothing.
For people who own these devices, how do y'all feel that the manufacturers can grant law enforcement access to your video feeds without notifying you or without any warrants?
Anything could happen but what’s the probability of that happening to you? My guess is less than 0.001%. So I wouldn’t worry about it much.
What do you mean by anything could happen? If I don't have a camera or other things eavesdropping in my house, the question of anything happening doesn't even arise. Also, you may want to check your statistics on such privacy issues.
We didn’t use ADT. We are using Ring
Do you have video surveillance?
Yes, you can have video surveillance option
