Wyatt Troia complaining about vesting on Reddit instead of Blind Original Post (Name and Shame: LoanStreet (NY) cheated me out of equity): https://www.reddit.com/r/cscareerquestions/comments/o3jpfc/name_and_shame_loanstreet_ny_cheated_me_out_of/ Court ruling: https://www.casemine.com/judgement/us/64fd4652f6fa7f68ca494e9d
It's worth reading the case text. Posts to Teamblind are cited in the decision as well.
Yeah not sure how that happened
Sounds like he was Uber asshole to another coworker about a software bug. “And then I reached out to him individually to not make a big deal out of it.” Would be interested to here other perspective on this point
Hardly grounds for immediate termination even if true in my opinion. A bad perf rating and a defined process to terminate low performers.. sure.. every company has a bottom 5% type policy..
PIP is for poor performers, firings are for behavioral issues. Don't think bullying is tolerated, especially if a colleague was a women
Whatever he may or may not have done; nobody knows… they obviously hold the right to terminate, but should have just prorated his options and given it to him in termination. ( unless there was a specific policy violation). Companies give severance as hush-money effectively; make it include options vesting in next six mths.. just corporate greed end of the day..
The options are usually worthless, they aren’t even worth 100k. The 100k was “based on founders projection” which idk if you’ve ever interviewed for a startup before but they always give you ridiculously optimistic equity projections as a part of the “sell call” to try and get you to join. I bet they were worth like 10k paper money and this guy made it a hill to die on, sounds like a real peach to work with
I’d say all the more reason, they gave him whatever they were worth.. or terminated after they vested.. He may not have been the greatest coworker and gone overboard in his fight — agree. Those are bad emotional reactions.. and he needs to grow up.. corporate greed was still a thing here..
Sounds like a bad startup to work for. The dude should have just cut his losses. The court ruling said he paid for Google Ads and pointed them to the name and shame posts lol

Reddit post says that Christopher Wu initially promised equity vesting after 12 months, but later changed it to 16 months, starting after the next quarterly board meeting. Despite positive feedback on his work, Reddit poster says was abruptly fired during a COVID-19 hiring freeze, and his requested equity was denied
