Saw this article today. Could anyone from eBay confirm whether layoffs are coming? https://www.valueaddedresource.net/are-ebay-hiring-slowdown-layoffs-on-horizon/
Itâs doing fine
I just bought a pair of Sambas off eBay. I canât see why they would have layoffs, more business during a recession since people are buying used or off season products more than new. I could definitely see a hiring freeze.
Problem is ebay saw bump up in sales due to WFH and increase in consumer spending for items. That bump will go away, recession hurts them as people make look at purchasing used items during downturn it is not enough to offset overall declines in spending.
This difference is less than 10% for eBay.
ebay: the opensea for real shit
You can confirm on layoffs only after it happens. This is not an earnings call to announce before
The attrition is so high it's not necessary. I came back from sabbatical and two managers including my boss left for Amazon. Another QE has their last day tomorrow. So many folks are leaving for better FAANG money I don't see the point.
Yes, I was about to add this. Tech companies have 10%+ annual turnover rate. Think it was closer to 20% during the Great Resignation which I guess is still going on. If you donât backfill for 12 months you can âlayoffâ a large amount of staff, especially if you do small things like cut bonuses or restrict other fringe benefits.
And eBay cut bonuses and RSUs this cycle for exactly this reason.
2 open reqs still in my team. Nobody is applying.
I consulted my parakeet, itâs confirmed
Given the attrition we have i think mass layoff are unlike but I could see some hiring freeze or even small layoff in areas that are not priority
Nothing that I'm aware of. Manager keeps assuring that we are doing great as a team and there's nothing to worry
That's what they said before informing their directs of the layoff tomorrow.
