Amazon veterans- can you please advise how to avoid getting PIPed ever? And what clues shall I watch out for? Please if you can avoid trolling and share real insights, that will be much appreciated. I’m stressed due to personal circumstances and not asking this just for the sake of it. Asking this on serious note please. T,c : 250 Yoe: 9
Your manager will give you hints in 1:1 that you're not meeting certain LP's and if this happens more than 3 times you know it's time.
Build a network. Work with your manager to set clear expectations. Set a path for your career growth. There's a doc for every position that defines what's needed to get promoted to the next level. Review that with your manager every quarter and seek feedback. Understand the context around the tasks assigned to you. Add value to the product under your team's ownership.
When you look for hints you will see them everywhere.. just chill and do your work.. Even if you get pipped whats the big deal, if you are a decent engineer you can find another job. imho best way not to get pipped is by not thinking about pip.
Your username spelling needs a d instead of r
Don’t be in the bottom 10% in you team. Rank yourself among your peers, if you are in bottom 10% change the team before review period
Do you get PIPed only during review period?
Ask for consistent feedback from your manager. Meet your deliverables. You’ll be fine, assuming you’re qualified for the job.
Take ownership of an important project on your team with high visibility and deliver it well. Also, create a really good relationship with your manager and skip manager. Ask for help to get unblocked. Don’t be the worse performer on your team. And lastly, pray for good luck if you are religious
Keep working hard and smart everyday. Try to put your best each day. Try to follow LP principles each minute you work in amazon. Take feedback from manager each week. Forget your WLB (kidding) !
Thanks for your input. Appreciate that. This is sounding like a bit scary. I mean if you keep focusing on LPs, won’t it slow you down and you might not feel natural. I read a lot on blind and now I only have negative things about amazon in my head (unless there are none). 😐
If you don't know who they'll PIP, assume it's you. First negative feedback is your last warning.
Suck up to your bosses
