401k down 20%

How can I spread out my 401k? Currently: 60% domestic stock 39% foreign 1% short term This is what fidelity picked for me by default. Are there specific stock combinations that could perform better? Maybe 90% domestic, 5% international and 5% bonds? TC: 200k

Down 20% isn’t that bad this year

Never take default 401k options. Unless your employer negotiated management fees and configured the default fund it’s statistically the least performant of any option

How do I re-diversify my 401k portfolio? Any common combos or do I need to pay for an advisor?

All the main places offer a web portal to make changes. Put an hour aside (three of you aren’t comfortable with investments) and read through the performance reports for each fund you have access to. It’s also worth checking if they offer non-fund options

S&P is down 25% ytd. Your 401K is beating that while all in stock (0% bonds) which is surprising

This was the default portfolio from fidelity. Are there ways to re-adjust it? I was thinking of directing all new contributions to the stocks that have netted this negative so I can get them low and wait for the boom in a few years.

I’m -26% YTD, almost all in S&P

Microsoft AllOnBlack OP Oct 1, 2022

Default option?

ViacomCBS Tech101010 Oct 1, 2022

No, never let them pick for you. S&P and two Vanguard funds.

OP, 20% down since when?

Microsoft AllOnBlack OP Oct 1, 2022

New grad, started my contributions in February. This is a huge drop for such a short time, right? Should I direct all contributions to the stocks that have contributed to the dip so I can get them low and take advantage of the boom that’ll happen in the next 10-20 years?

LinkedIn oer Oct 1, 2022

Just HOLD. You only run at loss 📉 when you sell. Looks like your YTD performance is better than S&P

Microsoft AllOnBlack OP Oct 1, 2022

I’m not selling. I just want to re-direct my contributions elsewhere. For example, buy all the underperforming stocks that have contributed to this dip so that I can get them low.

Omg are we really gonna have all these threads for two years from the midwits who didn’t sell
