It blows my mind when people making 300/400/500K+ complain about their TC, as if they’re not already a part of the 1% of earners within the world. How much marginal utility or happiness does an incremental bump really make to you? Or is it just a matter of fueling your ego and thinking that you’re important?
It's just a game for me at this point, doesn't get me anything more
Exactly.
To keep score
I’m making 200k trying to push my 300k offer higher. Cheers
YOE?
9 fam I’m legit poor by Blind standards
Dont you want to give back? Dont you want to move the needle in this planet? It takes money.
You think majority of people in tech are giving back to the world and are moving the needle? Majority of them work on some meaningless product/feature and use their high TCs for self indulgence
Yooo Rockwell Collins!!
Getting what you deserve for the value you bring
Wanting to achieve better is not a bad thing. They got there probably because of this mindset
Achievement is not measured by money. Once you get to a certain threshold, it’s a useless metric to optimize your life for
The money doesnt matter, its the salary achievement. Its more like you achieved 500k TC which most people wont even get to
They are not in the top 1% “To be in the top 1% of earners in the U.S., you'd need to pull in $758,434 a year, based on recent data” https://smartasset.com/financial-advisor/are-you-in-the-top-1-percent If you factor in cost of living in certain cities and cost of raising a family, you will realize 300k doesn’t mean much.
hold on there mate --- 300k is a lot in every city nevertheless, OP has an idiotic non-answer to every comment here, even the ones clearly mocking them
300k is a lot in every city? Let’s break it down. Let’s assume your base salary is 180k and stocks are 120k. Some people have options and RSUs which aren’t entirely liquid until companies do a buy back. First let’s work with 180k Per month salary after tax and 401k: ~9k to 10k Rent for a 2br in Seattle - 4K a month Car like Model3 on a 5 year plan loan - 700 per month Weekend entertainment: 300 * 4 (# of weekends) = 1200 Groceries for 2 - 300 a month Takeout food for random week day dinners - 250 a month Current total - 6.5k This doesn’t include any costs for your medication, doctor’s visits, gym, utilities. You might want to save a little for the future. I would assume at least 2k a month. That basically leaves you with 0 dollars of your base salary in hand at the end of a month. If you need to make a bigger purchase like a trip to Europe, the new iPhone, etc, you need to cut other things / dig into your savings.
You have to make over 500k to be in the 1% in the US and over 650k to be in the 1% in California https://eu.usatoday.com/story/money/2020/07/01/how-much-you-need-to-make-to-be-in-the-1-in-every-state/112002276/ Idk, why we are comparing yourself to people who live for a couple dollars a month instead of the people in your local region.
To buy a second house To not think twice before flying first class To have luxury vacations To secure the future and relax Want me to go on?
