assume I have two offers L65 PgM from microsoft and L6 Sr PMT at amazon both at same comp/location. which role presents a stronger profile for getting into PM at google? thanks! would appreciate any feedback and experience. current tc 400k+ 10yoe
Pmt = Product manager tech
Then I still vote for amazon for the reasons above and closer profile
What is your background? Have you done a lot of tech consulting?
Yes mostly in AI/ML
Amzn Sr PMT L6 is entry level for any MBA hire. Principal PMT is a big promo and carries weight in the industry. L65 pm at msft is principal, which also carries weight. Purely on levels, I'd take the Msft offer hands down. But not everything is levels 🙂
PMT is better fit, as Google's PMs are pretty much PMTs, plus Amazon product org is more respected than MS in the industry. On the other hand MS 65 is a bit higher than L6 (check levels.fyi), don't know how that would affect Google chances. I would say consider teams as well, if MS will put you on a poorly PMd product - I would pick Amazon. +MS PMs tend to be downleveled when switching jobs, so be smart about levels.
Thank you for the thoughtful response that lines up well with what I am seeing as well. I was going to go amazon because of better team fit
I can give you referral to Google. PM me your resume
I would but I’ve tried so many times and they won’t even bother to call or interview, even though I got through at amazon and msft.. didn’t pass the fb phone screen (passed one but failed product sense)
I know so many people from McKinsey that is a pm here. Just dm me your resume. I'll make sure u got interview
PMT = technical project manager? How’s your background? Overall I would say amazonians are better cuz they have no soul already and they can work day and night :)
