just got approved from HC today and my recruiter has asked to provide expected compensation. she said we will discuss it once I provide it and then talk to comp committee. is she going to try to lower it before we finalize and send to comp committee? she said she has no incentive to lower my comp, is she lying? should i initially give a number higher than my ideal comp? appreciate any tips! #compensation #google #leetcode tc: 198K (bless AMZN)
Which area? Seattle or bay?
Hasn’t been decided yet, I am open to multiple locations and I think will give for each
Where are you currently located?
When did the recruiter submit your packet?
I don’t know what that means, can you rephrase?
I meant what day did your recruiter submit your case to HC. Just curious.
L4 L5 or L6 offer ?
You should know your level after passing HC
And if you don’t have a competitive offer, they will just give you an avg or low ball.
Give top of band imo to start negotiation
Let the comp team give the first set of numbers. You lose leverage if you give a number first.
I’ve heard the same and the opposite. I can see why giving the number first can be bad (you may leave money on the table) but if you know the top offers for your experience then you don’t have this problem.
OP is correct. Only bad if you don't know the range already. If you do, shoot high.
Yea if you don’t give a number they will just give you average or lowball offer
I gave my Google recruiter a number, the recruiter came back with a number that was 95% there, I told them I needed to wait for another offer but if they matched my initial number I won’t wait. They came back the next day with an offer that 105% my initial ask and I was happy. Are you doing comp review before team match?
Hmmm you may have aimed too low if it was that easy.
I doubt it, is on the higher side of what I’ve seen here or on Levels for the Level

Splunk vs AWS
someone has an incentive to pay you the minimum amount to get you to work there. It’s simple economics. If you must pick a number, shoot high.
