Google is not just an employer, it's a lifestyle

Working at Google is more than just a job, it's a lifestyle. I eat all my meals free at the office (delicious Indian food and free snacks too) and my doctor/gym/massage is all in the office. Top-tier perks like amazing health insurance, vision insurance (my optometrist was even shocked at how good my insurance was, he said it was the best he's ever seen), 401k match, etc. The office is like a city within a city. It's decorated masterfully and diverse in gender, race, and age. Googlers often bring their families (kids) to the office and their dogs. Stepping into the office is like teleporting to another universe. And there are offices in every corner of the world. Google products are the most interesting and influential in the world. If you get bored you can switch to another product. There's endless projects to pick up on. And with all that, the work life balance is the best. No on-call (I don't even bring my laptop home on weekends), 35 hours/week in a busy week and 20 hours/week otherwise, and so many clubs and events in the office to entertain yourself. The tooling and documentation is not perfect, but it is better than the rest of industry by a mile. 1 hour of work here is so efficient it is like 5 hours of work elsewhere. Lastly, the prestige is undeniable. Everyone I tell that I work at Google is impressed and treats me better. I'm proud to say I work at Google. I'm part of an elite, highly-selective club. I've worked at Amazon before (🤮) and the lack of perks and prestige basically feels like prison compared to what I have now. I will be working here forever. Why hurry to retire? I'm already at the finish line.
