Can someone please educate me, why is leadership positions not merit based and it just has to be represented by all race groups? im not racist i just want to know what is pushing google/tech companies to do things like this? does this mean all race needs to be equally represented? so less indian leaders? more black leaders? do we rebalance each year based on employee race percentage, i just dont understand
Leadership representation by race and merit are not mutually exclusive ideals lol. The goal is to find racially diverse leaders who meet the merit standards.
That’s fair, I’m not saying is mutually exclusive. But it should be just merit based right? If we want the company to be competitive. If we have limited leadership positions, why not just have quantitative way of evaluating candidates based on merit. Why does race need to be in this?
Evaluating leaders can never be solely based on quants. It’s not a formula in which you put values and it spits out the next CEO. There are a range of factors which are looked at subjectively. Diversity is just another factor being added to the portfolio

Question:- How many qualified black applicants does Google get for leadership positions? And why doesn’t white privilege explain so many Asians in tech, especially when the average salary of whites is so low. Lastly, why is diversity in tech ok, but the sane is not valued in NFL and NBA? The point of these questions is not to deny or ignore lack of equal opportunities blacks, but to understand abs address the underlying issues that cause unequal opportunities for different social groups. Representation in jobs may not break up evenly to align with demographics due to socio economic and cultural issues (do some Cohorts on average spend more time studying math and science than others?)Perhaps racism is an issue too. But to fully understand and address the root cause we must be willing to ask and answer tough questions.

because the nfl and nba are truly merit based (with the exception of quarterbacks where bias exists where the race of the coach determines the race of the qb for the most part). if tech were merit based, it would be more diverse than it is. sports are the only way bias can be removed because the tests for fitness are not biased. tests in tech and education are

They sure are. My point is not saying they are not. So we have limited positions, do maximize company’s benefit, we recruit senior leaders based on merit, race considered, and let great leaders from India China whites Latinos black to compete. What’s wrong with just that? Maybe black leaders overwhelmingly are greater then okay we have more black directors and all, I’m fine with all that. When I switch team, I never look at the race of the leader of the new team. What I’m not fine is setting a quota
