Booz Allen

Interviewed last week and received a verbal offer today for 110k. My question is should I email the recruiter a counter offer now, before a written salary offer is made or wait until the written offer is sent then counter that. Regardless I am probably going to take the position as it is mostly remote (5 days/year in office) and my current position requires 2hrs a day of commuting. YOE: 4 TC: 129k

Verbal offer is pretty common and written offer is sent out when candidate agrees to verbal offer. That’s done because written offer is more time consuming, generally requires multiple levels of approvals in applicant tracking system.

So I should email a counter to the verbal offer now?

Mode of communication doesn’t matter. Though email would be better in case you need a written proof later on.

You should counter now, before the written offer. The written offer is prepared once the applicant and the company agree on the verbal offer, so it would come off as flaky on your part if you waited until the written offer.
