Bloomberg background checks

Hi I got an offer from Bloomberg and hope to start soon. Currently the Cisive background check is going on. I job hopped a bit when I first started out and in the past 4 years have held 4 jobs. First one 5 months, second one 3 months, third and fourth one each 1.5 years. so my questions are as follows: 1. I was fired from my first job and was unemployed for a few months. I fudged the end date on my cv by extending it by about 2 months. Is this going to be an issue in the background check? 2. The background check asked for work experience for the last 7 years but said it would only make 3 checks. I therefore didnt include the first job in the application details in the background check. Is this going to be a problem? 3. My second job only lasted 3 months as both the boss and I took the view that this wasnt a good fit for me. Because it was short stint i didnt include it on my cv. However as it fell within the last 3 most recent jobs i held, I included it in the details requested by Cisive in the background check. Is it an issue that this information wasnt in my cv? 4. Does anyone know whether Bloomberg is super particular about employment history? During the interview stage they did ask why I had short stints. I didn't say i got fired of course but just said i wanted to get a feel for working for players of different sizes in the industry etc. 5. How long do these background checks take to come back? And does anyone have any experience failing a background check because of similar issues? Thanks!!

Dont worry my resume was full of errors and nothing happened. I think mine took ~10 days.

Thanks, that's a bit of a relief to hear.

Can you tell me more about this? I got an offer (non tech position) and i realized my graduation date on diploma is different that the date on my resume (by a few years, very complicated situation). I still have the degree but Im worried the discrepancy in graduation date will make them upset?

Not bloomberg but I hope you have an overworked/ditzy recruiter. Lots of discrepancies can raise questions as to why you weren’t 100% honest

I've already gotten an offer. The background check is after I've passed all the interviews. The issue of being fired just never came up so I never mentioned it. Just wondering if a 2 month extension of my first job would result in my offer being rescinded

I know, Amazon and most big companies have a similar process where after you accept an offer they put you in touch with a 3rd party company to verify your background experience. From my understanding these companies can only ask certain things (like dates of employment) which is what makes the small discrepancies add up.

What was your offer? TC!!? But I recently got an offer 215, 180 base 35k bonus) and went through this background check (it was with Sterling though, not Cisive) and one of my past employers messed up the dates I worked so it got flagged as a discrepancy. My recruiter did not care about it apparently. Just as an FYI, the background check company only informs BBG on what they found. It’s up to BBG to withdraw the offer or not. Don’t fudge your numbers on your resume though, a gap is a gap. You can say you wanted personal time as the reason for that gap. Good luck!

Can’t even ask about gaps in NYC, so that doesn’t matter.

Oh im not based in NYC. Based in Europe. TC is 180. I mean I've already fudged the number on the resume, got the offer and am now realising that was stupid- so damage done i guess. Qn is whether it's going to be fatal or not. Seems like it's down to the recruiter in the end so... fingers crossed? Just wondering how fatal a 2 month "extension" is tho

Hi I am updating this thread. The background check took almost a month to clear. It may be due to the virus, not sure. I was asked repeatedly to provide further details of my employment history. I'll answer my own questions in turn: 1. I decided to get out ahead of this and pointed it out to them and said i got the date wrong on my cv. They accepted it. LESSON LEARNT: DONT FUDGE ANYTHING!!!!!! 2. They did get back to me to ask for ALL my job experience. So i had to provide evidence of my very first job that was included in my cv but not in the background check. 3. I had to explain why i didnt include it in my cv (said it was a short stint and didnt want to crowd my cv) but had to give full details of my employment history there including supporting docs 4. Length of stints didnt matter as much as exact start and end dates and the fact that i was indeed employed there. 5. my background check took over one month. Maybe because these are virus times. Thank you to everyone from blind who helped allay my fears and gave me helpful answers. I truly appreciate it.
