It amazes me how less scientists and engineers get paid at companies developing cutting edge technology like NASA, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon etc. If my estimate is right, they start at around 70K and plateau at 140K or something, 10-15 years later. It doesn’t just sit right with me. What are we doing in FAANG to deserve twice or thrice that paycheck. I feel sad for them actually. TC 220K, Devices
FANGMULAS use cutting edge software to make slightly incremental improvements in engagement and monitization. The aerospace companies use dated technology to make groundbreaking advancements. I'm too selfish of a person to makr a real difference in the world so I'm joining a FAANG.
That’s the same reason why I stopped considering working in those companies.
I think you need to go back to refresh on how market economy works along with how governments can influence markets as well. Nobody is “deserving” of anything, this is how the market is playing out.
There's more to the word 'deserving' than market forces and government policy.
Net Income Per Employee
NASA for one is a joke and shadow of its former self. Just wasting tax payer money. Diversity hires everywhere making tea and sitting in meetings to make other useless people seem relevant and necessary as they try to get more funding from government. I'd say a small % of NASA employees could actually make something like a Rover or satellite happen.
The government run jobs program portion of NASA is horrible (looking at you SLS), but NASA still does amazing things. I'd put very few things in the tech industry in the same category. No, scaling a social app up to a billion+ users is not impressive in comparison.
It's not quite rocket science is that what you are saying?
don't let the suits do the same to tech, short term profits will kill true innovation
This is actually sad but true. Smart ppl now all want to work on some dumb app to earn ads money. What a waste
I know a lot of smart people who make way over 150 working in defence... well they can probably make double of that in the private field...
Most defense people are working with old tech and doing maintenance work. Pay makes sense
+1
Government jobs are limited in how much they can pay, period. The amount is set by Congress. Government contractors, in the right places, can make $400k a year. FAANG employees make more because they’re profitable. Nothing I work on generates profit.
What do you do for nasa?

Yup, definitely adds more value than Splunk does
So we are talking about value now? So confused... 😴😴😴
