I’m currently a new grad with two job offers, one from Bloomberg and one from a very stable consulting firm. I got the bloomberg offer after accepting my consulting full time offer but I know Bloomberg is a much better fit / better career opportunity for SWE. Now I’ve never heard of Bloomberg LP doing layoffs or rescinding new grad offers but I’m a bit hesitant on reneging my other offer only for Bloomberg to rescind my offer leaving me jobless after graduation. It’s happened to many of my friends who graduated last year (in other companies) that were set to start in a couple weeks but couldn’t due to “market conditions”. Any advice or guidance here would be helpful! TC: 0 (i’m a broke college student)
I’m ex-Bloomberg and never knew or heard of anyone who was laid off there. However like other poster mentioned, doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Historically though it’s unlikely. Not sure what the consulting firm is, but Bloomberg is great for exit opportunities as well. Looks solid on a resume.
I suspect the other place would take you back if bloomberg strangely decided to rescind your offer. It sounds like you come from a low income background or are on a student visa? Because this really isn't a high-risk decision for a middle-class american college graduate who can, worst case, move back with their parents. Only you know what your worst case fallback is but speaking of the average person in your shoes, this really is mild risk level. Wait til you have kids..
I could move back with my parents if Bloomberg was to rescind my offer and I’m definitely in a good position in that sense. It would just suck to have two offers and then none when it really matters if that makes sense
IMO aim as high as you can and take as many risks as you can when you are this young. This fear of potential regret will unnecessarily hold you back.

Bloomberg has no history of layoffs. That doesn’t guarantee no layoffs in the future, but that precedent gives a lot of us comfort.
