Heard back from a recruiter today after a couple of interviews with the hiring managers. Went over the package and the TC for the position. Expecting an offer sometime in the next week! For those of you that have ever taken a position at LM, did you have any success negotiating or bumping the TC. Maybe negotiating a relo package? I want to hear from you, thanks! #lockheed #lockheedmartin #tc #negotiation #boeing #raytheon
TC or GTFO
For blind, anything! 😂 Current TC: 76k Proposed TC: starting at 88k in med COL area
YOE?
You’re asking if a government defense contractor is willing to pay more than their initial offer?
Yes!
I am ex LM. What level? That is very important?
Mid level position. (Level 2)
Level 2 is junior. It’s is a software engineer title (assuming tech). You can go up to level 6. It’s fairly OK to get to level 4 and then it gets hard. Your base will be 75K or so but not much and will depend on location etc. It’s a good company for sure.
What are the benefits like at LM? Federal government jobs must have some cool benefits
working a 9/80 schedule - every other friday off!
LM has decent benefits. Yearly bonus, 6% salary into 401K every year, 4% 401K match, good WLB. Keep in mind it really depends on which division you work for and location.
You willing to take a job in the military industrial complex? A company that lobbies tens of millions to US department of defense for wars to sell it's products in? I guess it's defensible if you have children that need food. Otherwise, just keep looking for jobs.
I know what you’re saying and I don’t feel good about it. I am very opposed to our military presence and regime change activities around the world. So morally I feel very conflicted about working for such a company.. However the job is space related, I don’t think I would consider it if it were missiles or weapons based.. It sucks.
I believe in you! What about NASA, SpaceX blue origin, Boeing?
Yes, LM will negotiate. In my experience doing it twice (two different roles, years apart) they will give you an ok-ish number. Counter and they will bump the offer a little but not by much. I personally only counter once for my positions so I don't know what they do for 2 or more counters. Definitely counter, they are very professional about it.
Should I counter upon receiving the offer letter? How does it work? (Never had to!)
Recruiter will call you and then give you the offer via email. You only have a few days to respond. Just reply that with, "Thank you for the offer, I am very excited about this opportunity! Is it possible to ask for a salary of $XXX? I feel that my years of experience <insert short blurb> and my degree <insert short blurb> justify a slight increase in pay." Of course, research the market rate and see what would be the appropriate counter.
