We're considering UserTesting or UserZoom. What has your experience been using those services? Or do you use another?
We're forced to use Usertesting.com. Not a terrible platform, but not quite right for highly specialized users (which I need). For general consumers it's pretty good - although you still need to make sure you have a good screener. I don't have as much experience with UserZoom, unfortunately so I can't give a perspective on that.
What kind of features does UserTesting lack that you need? Or what other service would you rather the if you had the opportunity? At this point I think UserZoom has a lot more features but I'm wondering if my team will use all the bells and whistles like heatmaps and tracking codes.
It's not the lack of tools that I find frustrating with UserTesting, rather the lack of quality skilled users. For instance, if you need to run something by someone that works with and on servers on a regular basis, it's nearly impossible to do so. At least at an intermediate or advanced skill range. While it is relatively cost effective for remote testing, it isn't that helpful when you need to find a very specific subset of users. Unless you bring your own and create a custom panel - and even that gets difficult because the users aren't interested in completing tests for the incentive provided.
I’ve used Validately and liked it quite a bit, better than UserZoom for sure
To caveat UserZoom has more features but I find them poorly designed. Validately does fewer things but does them well

What did you think of Validately? Can you disclose what you use at Apple?
I wish I was still using Validately. Lookback is another one I used in my graduate program, but it required people to use Chrome, so it was limiting sometimes. I cannot disclose anything about the tools I use now.
