Back when I interviewed as a new grad I interviewed at AMD and it went really well. Hiring manager told me as much but said they need someone that knows C++ so they will move forward with another candidate. I’ve been doing C++ since day 0 in my current role and learned it on the job. What HM doesn’t pick a candidate over not knowing a language. I had 4 years C experience like learning C++ is just moving up a layer it’s not that hard. Smh salty about missed stock gains. Thanks for attending my ted talk #hardware #interview #semiconductor
It’s great that you were able to pick up C++ in your current role. But you’ve got to admit that C++ is pretty complicated and messy, right? Can you really not see why someone might prefer to hire someone who already has experience with it?
How much stock gains did you miss out on?
It was $13 the month I would have joined
Oh man...
Don’t look at opportunities you missed, look at opportunities for the future
What is your current role
SW dev for one of the snapdragon IP cores
If you were doing snap dragon why don't you try Apple?
I am interested in c++ coding as well
Join the team I didn’t join
I'm a new grad and I don't get RSUs at my level. Everyone on my team says you need to be senior. Designer or above for that
Don't be sad at all I joined AMD as an engineer ii around the same time. No rsus and we didn't even get espp back then. AMD is stingy as fuck they didn't even give full bonus last year. Glad I got out. It's only good to join at MTS level or above.
And as a new grad you wouldn’t get any stocks
If you had to pick from two candidates: one already knows C++ and another one can learn C++, which one would you choose?
😔
The one that fits best the role and the team. Technology, you can learn. Personality, takes way long to change.
