i quit a company (before joining Amazon) well within the clawback period, but I haven’t received anything from my old employer about returning the funds. Do you typically just hold tight and wait for them to send it? I imagine it’d be best if I returned within the same tax year, so I would like to return sooner rather than later TC: 175k
I believe it’s up to hiring manager to decide if he wants signing bonus back
Actually the hiring manager has nothing to do with it. Atleast In Amazon.. they don’t even know sometimes.
HM has other high priority tasks like hunting for a PIP prey
I received a letter from the employer I left stating I owed them the funds. It came from HR to my personal email a few months after I left the company.
How long is ‘few’ months? In the same boat and haven’t received any yet.
I left Microsoft for Amazon (and am since back at Microsoft) and I got the letter either 2 or 3 months after. It was long enough where I thought I was in the clear but wasn’t :(
In the same boat. Haven’t received any notification for 6 weeks now.
wait till you receive a letter with the amount and instructions and follow them. Sometimes it takes 8 to 10 months.. it took me 9 months to get the letter from MSFT
thank you!! that’s so long, i thought it could be within the same year which would make taxes so much easier
They shouldn’t put the whole amount on your W2 when they send it to you at the end of the year, so it shouldn’t make any difference for taxes.
Generally depends on company but most don't ask, this is from my previous company hr. For 10-15k companies don't spend lot of time amd effort, they need lawyer and all to take action. Amazon asks because is is huge company and lot of people move out. So for now just chill, if they send you an email you can give them back, also make sure you don't spend that money right away.
MSFT asked me to payback 6k sign on, this happened few years ago
Yeah, it depends on company, looks like big organizations ask 🤷♂️
Show up at your old office with a wheelbarrow of greased pennies.
Just don't dump it out. But, that's a great idea. Rent a truck and fill it with pennies or quarters.
They will most likely reach out to collect. Until then just park the money in an interest bearing savings account
This is the way.
What’s the interest bearing savings account look like?
It’s up to them to collect.
The few times I've seen the situation happen in my local bubble there was no clawback and there was no attempt. Don't say anything and you should be fine.

Just 🤫 and move on with your life
i wish! until one day i see that they sent it to collections and accruing interest or something
Honestly I’d just put the money aside and make them come ask for it. Some companies don’t bother as it’s too much of a headache
