👆 assume this is for people who go through normal schooling all the way through GE college classes
Purely my opinion here: I could barely read fluently at 6-7, there's no point in teaching coding at that point. Also, whatever "needs regular practice" stuff I learnt in school was mostly forgotten by the time I graduated (read: calculus). Why would programming, which is basically applied math, be any different?

Yeah - learn programming now and then join the company owned by the kid who is playing at the park, making friends, learning social and soft skills and will have overall superior level of street smartness.
All those plumbers and electricians and car mechanics and farmers and cosmetologists, etc. Grow the f up. The world doesn’t revolve around programming.
