I got this offer from TikTok: 285k base 2000 RSUs (about $190 each, but not liquid yet) 50k sign-on over 2 years Annual bonus >= 25% of base The annual bonus having a lower bound looks sus. The recruiter was very certain that 25% is the minimum though. Is this real? Currently L5 with TC around 280k, including Amazon RSUs but not ZARs. YOE 5.5. Should I stay, move, or keep on looking?
Congratulations on the offer! Bonus is based on performance. There’s another thread on blind talking about how many people met the performance requirement and get 25% bonus and how many got more than 25%. Your base salary is quite high btw for 2-2 compared to what I view other posts so far.
Thanks for the info. The recruiter told me that the median bonus rate for software engineers was around 50%, and there were people that got up to 90%. That sounds unusually high. Does this align with your experience?
I would say the median is around 33-40%, but yes over 90% is not unheard of. You can negotiate for more rsu and 100k sign on
Congrats. What team did u interview with?
Good
Your base is already high as zoox, and I can guarantee you you’ll work 996 at least. I am not sure if it’s with it to be honest.
Zoox's comp isn't just the base. It includes Amazon RSUs, which will deplete after 3 years and cannot be refreshed. The base is just around 210k.
If it's not at least 30% more, don't bother. Take in account non-liquid shares and discounted buyback if you decide to leave. Sign-on over 2yrs is a red flag there, you need to last 2 years to keep that bonus.
The 2-year sign-on is prorated if you leave before 2 years. Is this not standard?
Yeah so it's at most 25k more for 1st year. Note that our turnover is on par or worse than Amazon/FB. Push for more signon/cash, I'd say, and seriously consider the possibility of leaving under 1yr (check my username). Overall, solid 2-2 offer!
Congrats on the offer. Are the RSUs vested on 25% part annually? And since bytedance is not yet public, is there a way to negotiate the offer to accept more cash instead of RSUs. (Example instead of 2000 RSUs , lets say 50% of 2000 RSUs and rest to be added to base)
If the candidate is offered the option to split comp between RSU and salary the 25% expected bonus is taken into consideration as part of the TC.
Oh. I was told that the bonus is only calculated from the base. That's why I picked this version of the offer with the highest cash. Maybe I've been misinformed again 🤔
newb question. What is 2-2 or 3-1 terminology? I'm not an engineer, more so in marketing. Thanks in advance.
2-2 = senior SWE 3-1 = staff SWE I think...
Your offer is way too high for a 2-2
Is this for Seattle?
The bonus is highly dependent on the verbage of your offer letter. If the offer states that it's at the discretion of the board for any bonus pays out, than that is not guaranteed; however, other definitive verbage means that the recruiter is right. My advice, read the offer and ask for very specific language if it doesn't say that.
Thanks. I'll definitely ask the recruiter once I see the offer letter. They said the would only give out the offer letter once I verbally tell them that I'll take their offer. That's another strange thing.
