not talking about Starbucks. let's say you're getting a coffee at some hipster coffee shop in Seattle and coffee already costs around 4+$. how much would you tip? I'm new to US and find tipping policy here very confusing
If she's cute, I'll round it up to $5. Otherwise no tip.
My girlfriend paid 6.25 for a latte in San Francisco today. $1 tip. This is crazy
No tip. Even on restaurants. It’s such a bullshit tradition. We need to stop doing it to the owners of hospitality businesses will stop counting tips as part of compensation and hence will pay them whatever the right wages are.
Do you get paid a bonus at Microsoft? Does it provide incentive to work harder and produce better results? Why would you think that is unique to you or to high TC jobs?
The difference is that tips were originally made when restaurants couldn't sell booze, and dropped wages accordingly. The server's wage isn't considered a living wage, as the tips are supposed to supplement their wage to a living wage
My rule of thumb is 15 to 20% for dine ins where I get served by a waiter. For self service places like coffee its 0
If it's pouring a drip coffee that makes sense but if it's an espresso drink your barista put craft, time, and effort into doing it right for you, more than a waitress would carrying it to your table, and without you tip he or she isn't getting paid very much to do it.
Don't be cheap. Tip no less than $1.
Coffee house? Why tip them for just doing their job? It's just self-service
What next, tip McD employees?
I'll round up to $5 if it's just one coffee and at least $1/10% if there's more than one. I don't drink coffee that often so it's all right..
0, 4$ is plenty for coffee. I can make my own latte for like 5 cents... even with expensive beans...
So make your own coffee. Otherwise cough up your buck like everybody else.
What everyone else does has 0 bearing on my actions. Unfortunately I cannot lug a espresso machine around. Enjoy getting swindled, paying $6 for 2 scoops of beans and 8 oz of milk though. $3 is already a joke. It only costs that much since they know rich tech employees can pay it, the profit margin is massive.
$1
Just tip 15-20% with min being a dollar. If you don’t want to pay a tip just make your coffee at home. If you hate tips then get tips banned in a law, don’t punish the service workers.
