I need help in talking to recruiter about compensation. I have an offer and recruiter is asking me about what I need as total compensation. I have never done this before so I am not sure what should I respond back and how should I represent my total compensation to them. Should I say one big number or should I split by saying I need this much base salary, this much annual bonus, this much stocks (over four years vesting) and this much sign on bonus. She told me to tell them what I need basically like how much sign on bonus and other things so not sure what's the best way to do this. Help me out guys.. YOE - 7 TC - 205K
Better let me give you a number first
Tell them the exact split you need. Drum up your other offer numbers and ask them to beat it. Most importantly, tell them that if you give me x if this, y of that etc, I will immediately sign and reject the other offer. That’s how I have managed to get massive tc increases when changing jobs. All the best!
it’s not rocket science.
If it was rocket science, it won't be asked here
I usually start with "what is the salary range for this position?". If you get a response, go for TC you are comfortable with. Asking too high, it might disqualify you in some cases. Providing number for each breakdown is better than one single big number. If you want big base number say something like "base salary is important to me"
