Hey all, Recently got an offer to join Gemini as a Senior Software Engineer. I want to get a sense for how typical this offer is and if I can negotiate up. I’m in the Bay Area and YOE: 6 Base: $175k Bonus: 10% Sign on: $10k PIUs: 5,000 (valued at $75k according to them) The PIUs seem really low but they refused to move up on that.
OP I work in NYC. I would say generally you got an at-market offer for a senior software engineer, assuming you have like 4-6 years of experience. Not great, but not bad either. Definitely below FAANG, but Gemini isn’t FAANG. Different story of you have 7+ years of exp or are doing some exotic tech.
Thanks, I’m actually in Bay Area though. I have two competing offers but they aren’t significantly higher comp (one is significantly higher equity though). my YoE is 6.
I see. I definitely can’t say what the market is out there.
Your PIUs are likely worth more by the time Gemini goes public.
Isn't PIU's worthless if company goes public/liquidated?
Is it true that PIU’s are worthless if the company goes public?
Did you happen to join Gemini?
OP, is 5K PIU grant total or per year ?
Total over 4 years
Whats a piu? Also whats their tech stack? Offer seems on the low end for nyc
Keep in mind that Gemini is not FAANG
PIUs are profit interest units. They did this weird thing instead of shares for tax purposes (or so they say). They have a value of $15 per PIU which means I have $75k at the current valuation
