Current title: Software Engineer I don't do coding much (I mean Python, go etc, but I do a lot in Terraform, Ansible etc). I got an offer for AWS premium support role, since I don't have enough knowledge in AWS, is it good for me to join in AWS as CSE? Or am I lowering myself by going from software engineer to support role? My ultimate goal is to become an SRE at Google or any FAANG. Is it gonna harm my career if I take this support role? Everyone knows the secret, aws support is a bridge, get the FAANG title and your job search becomes 100X easier
This right here
Is this true? Is Amazon offering 23 lakhs per annum in India for a support role?
So did you take the offer?
What is the base?
It's up to you whether to decide if it's worth it or not. A lot of people use it as a bridge to SDE and other roles such as SA. You just have to play your cards right. No one will care what your previous titles were as long as you have experience in what they're looking for.
Are you saying people who work in support in Amazon have chance to move to SDE? I remember once when I applied for DevOps role about few years back, the hiring manager directly rejected me saying I am from sysadmin background, they're looking for someone with dev skills. I am wondering if support people moved to SDE or SA role later point of their career in Amazon.
The good thing about amazon is that you can reach out to teams and do an informal loop to interview for roles. They don't care what your current role is as long as you can show you got the skills. 3 of my friends have moved to SDE roles within AWS just in the last year. Me personally? I'm prepping to move to an SA role. Already have a few contacts from coworkers who did the same move.
