I just purchased iCloud (2gb monthly subscription) solely for photos storage, but I have been very disappointed in iCloud/Apple Photos limitations (generally I think Apple products are great so I’m confused at limitations that seem like they should be basic functions). Mainly I want an app I can use with my family, that can: - share photos easily - have facial recognition - store high quality files So far, my experience with iCloud is… - facial recognition doesn’t work on shared albums - video limitation of up to 15 min - shared album is low quality - can’t share an existing album— need to select all photos I want to share and then create a “shared album” I’ve casually used Google Photos before, and though I’m not into the design, it seems much more functional for sharing, and the search function is fantastic. I’m leaning toward switching over, but it seems a lot of iPhone users still end up using Apple Photos because of the automatic integration and backup. Wondering if anyone had any thoughts. #icloud #apple #google
iCloud just because of how convenient it is. I’m pretty sure there’s a way to share full size photos if you want.
If your family also using android choice is obvious + functionality that you mentioned above.
I have multiple Apple devices and I still use Google photos. That can sync everywhere too.
Facebook photos all the way.
Sharing IPhone to Android is pain if u want good quality. With Google photos there is feature called create link after multi selecting photos. Neone with link can view the photos
Google photos is an order of magnitude better than the rest. And I only say that because I wrote the damn infra.
Without giving off any confidential info - what were some of the technical challenges faced in building the infra to support Photos?
Forbes just posted an article on this: https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2021/05/08/why-you-should-never-use-google-photos-on-your-apple-iphone-ipad-imac-or-macbook/

Icloud photos is the best choice if you’ve multiple apple devices. Best. Go for it.
Definitely I love the ability to sync across devices (I do pretty much have Apple devices). Do you share albums with others though? How do you feel about the share function?
Sharing is totally cool. You can easily share it with non iOS users. Just need to enable the link settings to Public.
