236 LC done, system design study for 2 months but still not feeling ready

236 LC done (80 easy 114 med 42 hard) Solved about 50 of them on paper or whiteboard. Prepared System design interview by reading Designing Data-Intensive Application and tech blogs and papers. Also went over grokking system design interview in educative.io I have 5 onsite interviews scheduled in the next 3 weeks. Google Facebook LinkedIn Airbnb Uber. Still not feeling ready and I think I would never feel that I am ready even if I hit 400 LC. I am planning to do the latter three in one week. Then will do G and F in the following week. I am thinking of postponing G and F if I mess up any of the first three interviews. Should I keep postponing till I feel I am ready? YOE 10 TC 260K

Great work. plz keep up. TBH I didn't expect a person with 10 YOE would make a post like this. If one can't decide how to prioritize and make a balance b/w many stuffs then what would it convey.

I believe that system design matters more for senior positions so I am trying to focus more on that, but the leetcode part, I just never feel ready. I was wondering how other 10+ yoe folks prep as well.

Postpone

Have you started doing “mock” interviews on Leetcode ? I feel if you can knock out few of those (time contraint) then youll feel ready to interview!! Else youre never gonna feel ready man. I have not personally tried those mock interviews, but once i have finished the comoany specific cards on LC , i will try these.

Salesforce sk8er OP Mar 25, 2019

I tried two of them and was able to pass. I will try more for the next few days. Thanks!

Dude. Youre a beast then man. Youve got this. Try a bit more. Remember to REVISE every single question already done and go for it. Worst case theyll ask you to reintervoew in 6 months again. Best of luck !

Went through the same, its hard to feel ready since the process is quite subjective/random. Get a solid backup offer so you are less nervous

Salesforce sk8er OP Mar 25, 2019

That’s the plan. Hope things work out. Thank you!

I would recommend target exact questions asked by the companies from linkedin and prepare them really well and give interview

Salesforce sk8er OP Mar 25, 2019

Will try. Thanks!

From linkedin? Meaning?

IMO - the only way to feel ready is by giving more interviews. No amount of prep will make you feel as confident as solving questions in an interview context will. You’ll also end up picking some offers along the way that will take the pressure off you.

Get backup offer first, then relax and ignore their deadlines. Then go for F and G

Want to know a secret? You will never feel truly ready. I solved 450 LC and I still had many weaknesses. I am still unable to crack most hards that I have not seen before and some of the mediums can still be extremely difficult. I still suck at dynamic programming even after doing 50 tagged DP questions 2 or 3 times. Interviewing is 50% luck no matter how hard you prep unless you're a genius. Go fishing and interview at as many places as possible. See what you end up with. Try to learn something from every rejection. I had to fail at system design 4 or 5 times before I finally understood what interviewers were looking for. I failed 9 or 10+ interviews in 2018 before landing airbnb, Uber, Twitter and Microsoft offers. Don't let the rejections get to you.

So.... i am at 8th reject at this moment. So can I expect offers from google and uber? They are my next onsites. :p

This is inspiring man. Airbnb is my top choice along with Google. Hope our path cross some day. Thanks!

I am in a similar situation, I started doing mock interviews since last week to get a feel for what changes are needed. Feel free to DM for more details. I have 12 YOE and haven’t interviewed in. decade.
