I am a software developer with a CS degree, worked in tech throughout college, and about 5 YOE in corporate America at no name SaaS companies after graduating. Current job is fully remote, ~$150k TC, 15 PTO days/yr. I actually end up working on average 3 hours a day with no issues for a while now. I care most about remote only, WLB, and TC to hours worked ratio, not just raw TC at the expense of all my time and mental health. Mainly a backend leaning developer with some specialty in AI/ML. I am super valued/necessary at my current role so there is a lot of job security. I am pretty frugal and live on less than $30k/yr. I have not grinded LC or System Design, but I am confident I could succeed at it if I put a few hundred hours into grinding (my estimate so far from initial exposure to it and others' stories) For my next career move, should I keep coasting at current job, or is it possible to find a remote job with even better TC : hours worked in this market if I'm willing to grind initially to get there? How do you get confidence that your next job will have less than 3 hours of work per day?
Coast and use the extra time to build up a secondary income source that is not tied to hours worked.
Like? What are the possible secondary income apart from stock market, crypto and drop-shipping?
Canāt really help you much there. If you have a creative hobby then you can try monetizing that through Etsy or something like that. Youād have to definitely spend some time figuring that out yourself. Building some sort of low-level SaaS that solves a very specific problem for enough people could be a decent revenue stream.
Keep coasting AND find another job?
what if one job finds out about the other? š lol
How would they find out? Just prioritize one job over the other in conflicting meetings so you can only get fired from one
You could probably get a much better ratio at companies like G / Linkedin.
Nice, how common is it to be able to work a few hours a day on average in Big N? I had the impression they want to squeeze 8-10 hrs a day from you.
Canāt speak from experience, but the two companies I mentioned are known for very good WLB and high pay. Iāve heard many reports of 3-4 hour days being possible.
