After all, the resources come from these managers. So, how can an IC increase and maintain his scope? How does he deal with aggressive credit stealing? From the look of things it seems more stressful to remain as an IC at higher levels because you need to continually prove the value of your existence among 100s of vulture managers. What am I missing here?
Either by growing together with your manager or by having someone a level above helping to grow you across their org.
Add value. How is credit stolen? Senior managers shouldn’t be coding or they aren’t middle managers.
it doesn't look like u've played the role of a staff+ eng in ur career.
Your unfounded assumptions are why you continue to fail in your career.
What's a senior staff at MS? L66?
Your success should be aligned together will the skip's level uber goal. Your manager is also aligned with that and is probably focussed on a narrow piece of it. The way you'd increase scope here by driving the org narrative across multiple teams.
