Context (Keeping your ladder, level, pay, team, and work-location after 90+ days on Short-Term Disability): - Next week I hit 90+ days on Short-Term Disability (STD) - After 90 days on STD, G can legally give you another job (Different ladder, lower level, lower pay, different team, different work-location) - Shrink said I can go back to work for 30 days, afterwards job is protected (Ladder, level, pay, team, work-location) for another 90 days if I go back on STD - Would be next to impossible (Lawsuit risk) to fire someone within 30 days of returning from STD Context (Treatment): - Cause of problems was being a workaholic to avoid thinking about my traumatic childhood - Agoraphobia (Extreme fears of leaving home, highways, bodies of water, being in vehicles, heights) - OCD (Intrusive thoughts of Violence, Ruminating) - In November, I was so anxious I didn’t leave my block, could barely leave my house, could only do exposure walks 1 hour per day - In December, I have been so anxious I haven’t left my small neighborhood, do exposure walks 3 hours per day - I am currently on meds, do therapy 2 hours per week, and do exposure walks 3 hours per day - There is an in-network Intensive OCD hospital that can intensively treat (6 hours of therapy per day) my OCD; this program will start as telehealth since I’m agoraphobic, is 7-8 weeks long, and I’m hoping will fix my OCD
Release Past 1. Burning bowl ritual 2. Consciousness-based healing Reduce Anxiety 1. Eat clean 2. Strict celibacy
Anecdote from my own life: delayed focussing on my health cause I thought it was safer for my career. Pushed me past my limits and now my poor health has negatively impacted my career moreso for a longer time (potentially permanently...).
Hey Op , firstly I’m sorry to hear about your struggles but just remember “this too shall pass”. I had 2 episodes of mental Health issues and they lasted 6 months each and some days were terrible but remember just like the weather changes so will pass your dark Clouds. But you have to take care of yourself - with meds and therapy and whatever your doctor has recommended. You will find that you will recover with time and bounce back stronger than before. Don’t worry about your ladder/rank etc, be objective - you’re at Google and a solid candidate for future employment. Also don’t go back to a workplace environment that caused this turmoil and ocd in the first place. Have a clean break And fresh start. Finally, I think You may be mistaken about the job protection while on STD. You don’t have any job protection beyond 12 weeks and that’s only with Fmla or in californias case CFRA. After 12 weeks your company is expected to give you a similar or same job and pay. However your STD starts concurrently with FMLA and if you continue your leave beyond 12 weeks then Fmla ends and so does your job protection. At this point you’re on STD for the remaining 14 weeks. At any point during this time company can terminate you and upon your return they’re not mandated to give you the same job, you can be given any job. Depending on your STD policy you can get back to work after STD and after a period of 14 days at work you can initiate or qualify for another 26 weeks of STD for a maximum of 52 total Std Weeks in California . Beyond that you will be pushed in Ling term Disability LTD. Anyways, disclaimer: I’m Not an expert , ymmv, please check with disability and employment lawyers. Good luck And keep Us posted
