so many restaurants are jacking up the price on doordash, Uber eats etc. like.wtf. the consumer is paying for the service fees delivery fee already and the restaurant is getting business because of the platform and reach these apps provide. If you call and place an order or go via their website; usually takes you to toast tab; it's the regular price as you are ordering in person. is it just greed to keep more of the earnings or something else I am missing?
It is going out of hands, so i have taken the job of picking up my food, in my own hands 😄
even if you order pick up via door dash the prices are different.
I have also taken up the job of cooking my food, by my own hands 😅
Makes sense to me. That's capitalism
hence the word greed in the post ;)
Greed implies making undue or massive profit. Everyone in this chain has razor thin margins, I don't think that's the right word
Uber charges 10% commission to restaurants for pickup and 20-30% for deliveries. In addition to service fees charged to the customer.
I don't see why the communion is different for pick up vs delivery. apps are also double dipping
For delivery the merchant is paying the app to actually deliver the item as well as provide a marketplace and growth opportunities. For pickup they’re not providing the delivery aspect of it. Why would commission not be higher for delivery ones?
Give me convenience or give me death (but don't raise the price of that convenience or I'll complain on blind)
So… you have chosen death
You could just get in your car and pick it up yourself.
I do, these days I just use toast tab (restaurant website )
I do too. When I’m too lazy to drive I pay the ridiculous charges for door dash and consider myself lucky I have the option at least. Pre Covid half the places would t even deliver to me.
Merchants are breaking even at best and most are sharing razor thin profit margins in a three sided marketplace. Price of raw goods have been going up so they have no choice but to increase prices to cover their cost. Deliver apps charge more than toast which is traditionally pickup only removing delivery cost. If you want to save cost I recommend picking it up yourself which will cost you time and money.
Keep using toast tab :)

It is those apps charging the restaurants which is inturn baked into the price of items.
restaurant needs to pay the app just like consumer does. they provide a value added service. you can't wiggle out of it by passing on the cost to the buyer. that's double whammy
As you have observed, they certainly can pass the cost to the consumer.
