Hello, i’m in 4th year of engineering school in france studying Computer Science and specialized in Cybersecurity (Master Grade) and i’m actually doing a 20 weeks internship at Thales Communications and Security in Paris. For next year i have to do a 24 weeks internship and i wanted to make it in the USA (Bay area and NY but anywhers would be great. Already posted on reedit and workplace and they told me to get to blind to have more professionnal point of view, and also create a repher.me account) is it feasible ? do i have my chance, and if not should i try somewhere else (thinked of London) then try to search for a FTE in the USA ? Which choice is the best considering I will need sponsorship for visa in USA? i consider myself having a bit more experience than the other student at my age (already did software development at Cardif and IT job at the prime minister in france) thanks a lot for the help
Read about visas. Internship - probably J1 (100% chances to get once you sign an offer letter from a company that sponsors J1s). FTE - H1B lottery to start in States or L1 for an internal transfer after some time in the EU. Not all companies sponsor H1B, not all companies sponsor L1. Look for big corporations that sponsor visas. Microsoft does that. Facebook does that. Google used to do that but I'm not sure how is it for H1B for new grads now. Also, look for the intern positions now. ~September 2019 is the time when you need to apply for summer 2020.
Thanks. I am looking, my internship must start between February 2020 / May 2020 for 6 month. For internship it is J1, already tried at Facebook and they asked me if I needed one. But do you think I have my chance? Do you know how do company recruit Intern? What could made them chose me instead of an American ? It’s my dream to come to the US, especially on big firm. Maybe not now but in a few years if this is easier.
Yes, you definitely have a chance, that's a common practice and there is a huge number of interns that goes to US every year. They look for talents around the world. Prepare to interviews and apply to other companies too.
Are you a French citizen? You probably need to figure out the visa thing.
I am, some companies sponsor J1 for internship and for FTE it is H1-B, but do you Know if they might do it ? Do I have my chance ? Because it must have a cost for the company, the only benefit is that I talk one more tongue...
Don’t worry. If they do have that policy, you should give it a try. They recruit from the whole world. It won’t give you disadvantage if you need a visa.
