You own a platform that is going end of life in 6 weeks that is currently being used by 300 ppl in the business. How would you approach solving this? What questions would you have? What is your recommended course of action? Why? @google @facebook @amazon #interview #IT #interviewquestions #behavioralinterview
Ask 300 ppl why they like using old platform. Convince them to move to new platform. If platform does not exist than build one. If exist than integrate features requested by 300 ppl.
They are probably checking how do u deal and come up with a migration plan to new platform. Are u asking right questions. You have 6 weeks so your plan should be incremental so that no users will be impacted.
Presumably, the users are finding something useful on the old platform that they don't find on the new. It could be a feature, it could be a UI disconnect or some issue. You need to find out what they think, what their needs are, and what you need to do to transition them to the new platform, gradually, over the 6 weeks.
A Change Management strategy should have been roadmapped and a milestone communication strategy executed 6 mths ago...not going to end well
Sometimes you don't get that luxury
Having a strategy should not be a luxury...IMO
Ha. I literally just shelved a project that meets these criteria. We shifted them to a lightweight solution to wait out a couple months while the replacement platform beta is being deployed. Stakeholders were notified and bought in to the ”this isn't convenient but needs to happen” line of thinking.
can you explain in a step by step process what you are your team did?
Personally call each one and ask them why they did not read your 50 other emails telling them the end was nigh.
haha this is so true!!
Haha!
Flip the switch and force em over. Deal with it boomers 😎
Just the IBM way isnt it
Assuming that most of the users have phased out already from the system and 300 are the last one's using that system. Before i reach out to them, i would like to study their usage pattern - are there any specific areas that they use more then others, Do they have any historical data that provides them more insight etc. Once i have a basic understanding on the above mentioned questions, i would prefer creating a Mapping document that maps on what they do with what new system has to offer and setup a meeting with few in the group to understand more and based on that: 1. Present & Influence on how what they do is being achieved in efficient and better way in the news system 2. Identify gaps and plan to have those addressed in future delivery plan of the new product 3. Explore possibility of having legacy product deadline expire post release of the new product so that users have enough time to explore and slowly move to the new product (weigh this against cost of operation, support of the legacy system ) 4. Plan extra training to help them move to the new system and handhold until they are well set
thank you for this, this was along my thinking
what if IT is starting this from scratch at the 6 week mark?
Please excuse my typo
I would say, open up my Leetcode then jump this sinking ship
so your saying dont bother with the interview?
