I mean, if they’re generally mediocre students then I guess getting a top college brand on their resume probably helps them land a job out of college that is more than they could achieve on their own.

Depends on what industry you work in. For tech I’d say not very important since I’ve seen lots of very successful and highly paid people who went to schools like Cal State or rando foreign schools that few Americans have ever heard of. If you want to be a lawyer on the other hand, it may matter a lot but that’s law school.

Yes it’s incredibly important. People who go to Harvard have a huge edge over people who went to University of Wyoming. Don’t even pretend there isn’t a difference.

Maybe they went to Harvard because they were smart to begin with and that’s why they have an edge?

Yes. Full stop.

I've been around a while, and I went to grad school at Stanford. Two things:. One, you generally do get a better education at the top schools because you are getting it from the guys/gals who are doing the most cutting edge research. Two, a degree from a top school always stands out. That said, it's still possible and common to have a fine successful career without the expensive degree.

+all the connections you make while at school increase chances of landing much more lucrative jobs in the future , especially mid career because all your college pals are likely to have done very well in their careers. It’s a tremendous networking opportunity

What I don't get is why didn't they just pay someone to take the ACT/SAT for the student? Use the money for fake identification

Apple Cookenberg Mar 12, 2019

Also how this guy who ran charity foundation distributed money to all participants of the scheme.? I guess that’s becoming normal to use fake charity funds for thing like bribing

I don’t get why these colleges don’t just admit you with a lump sum payment of $2m (or w/e) and some sort of a basic test. Then use the money to build new facilities, offer additional scholarships, etc. This is America, goddamit! What’s more criminal is enforcing racial quotas for students where people of certain race have lowered requirements to get in.

“In many cases their children were unaware of their efforts to cheat on their behalf” Really? The kids were *that* dumb?

Sirius XM PaHwlm56 Mar 12, 2019

Parents are having to bribe people to get them into college, so... yeah, I would think so. The kids are probably all up in instagram showcasing their acceptance letters like “yo look what I did I’m so smaaaaart!”

This is how countries are run by establishments. Buddy networks. See most spend time and money to get reputation for philanthropy and social work. Their kids are taught to organize fund-raising events at an age when they barely get out of beds on time.
