“Relying on technical interviews can also have a disproportionate impact on minorities and other underrepresented groups” no it just has a disproportionate effect on people who don’t like leetcode
Dang! The secret is out!
I hate leetcode. But i totally disagree with this article. I am a woman and dont see it disproportainately affecting me or other women.
Which tech companies say the can’t find good employees? Facebook has been on a hiring freeze for a year now. Google just hires PHDs as entry level SWEs lol.
If Facebook is on a hiring freeze why am I hiring so many experienced software engineers last year, this year, every year?
Just curious, anyone knows how many are backfill vs new position? From my knowledge backfills are most, which proves the point, the employees are not interested/ not qualified ( coding is not everything) / interested more in money than the job..
Can someone post the article?
"Relying on technical interviews can also have a disproportionate impact on minorities and other underrepresented groups, and discourage job seekers from applying, Dr. Parnin says, noting that even senior-level employees can be afraid to transfer within their own organizations for fear of failing such tests." Which major tech companies make senior engineers go through LC interviews for internal transfers? Well, the media is just being the media, whether it's left leaning or right leaning.
Intuit does!
Apple, Salesforce (depending on team)
I can't read the article again to confirm, but earlier I was able to read the whole article, and it's not actually about LeetCode. It's about the pressure during interviews. Specifically, it talked about the differences between being directly observed vs letting the person interviewed solve the problem on their own pace. The latter ended up doing a lot better. So basically, you can test skill/aptitude better while interviewing when you make the person interviewed not feel like they're being judged until they actually submit the answer, similar to how you take tests in most other contexts (like academia).
