I got an Axoni offer. It's a blockchain company. The project seems more interesting than most work in Amazon. Should I go? I guess the salary will be similar.
I realize this post is very old but wanted to write a response for anyone who is curious about Axoni: My recommendation would be to avoid working there. The culture is incredibly toxic and the CEO and CTO are incompetent. Most of the people passionate about blockchain left the company a long time ago. The people hired or who end up staying for the most part come from traditional corporate finance and end up bringing their culture with them. This includes passive aggressive remarks, blaming people for mistakes, throwing people under the bus, excluding people from meetings if they disagree, and getting short tempered and yelling at team mates when deadlines approach. The CTO lacks technical skill and as a result will always end up prioritizing unrealistic business goals and forces the engineering team to push features out over mounting technical debt. If you try to raise concerns he'll nod politely and then power through completely ignoring the input of the engineering team. He's completely oblivious to what's going to happen in production if they continue down this path. The CEO is absolutely clueless and has no vision or leadership skills. There used to be an anonymous Q&A where employees could ask questions but the CEO felt like the tone of the questions was "harsh" and so he removed it. People stopped asking questions after that. This is the same person who abruptly fired people with little to no notice and with little heads up to the appropriate teams. The VPs have also never stayed for too long, and the only one that did is a backstabbing bootlicker who the CTO relies on because he's in way over his head and thinks the VP knows what he's talking about. The VP loves the power meanwhile his department has lost some of the most talented engineers in the company because of his incompetence. There's also a lot of favoritism so don't expect career growth unless the CEO likes you or you come from BlackRock or some other bullshit mediocre finance company. Finally: Be very wary about the glassdoor reviews. The CEO has a habit of removing negative reviews about the company. It used to be around a 3.1 on glassdoor and now it's 4.1. I would trust the reviews on blind more than glassdoor cause at least CEO hasn't found a way to remove those yet.
The previous comment from wzzy is totally unfair, sounds like it’s coming from a disgruntled former employee. While there may have been some truth in the past, things have really improved in the last couple of years. There have been a lot of positive changes with leadership, especially the new COO and middle management. Culture, personal and career growth is now a focus at Axoni. The company is working on really interesting projects and is expanding. There are a ton of very talented new hires from the business team, development team and product management. I completely disagree with the comments about the CEO. He has done a tremendous job in guiding the company to where it is. He is a strong proponent of transparency, has weekly company-wide meetings and holds open hours with employees on a weekly basis.
you make zero sense. How can you disagree with factual events the comment mentioned? There used to be an anonymous Q&A where employees could ask questions but the CEO felt like the tone of the questions was "harsh" and so he removed it. People stopped asking questions after that. This is the same person who abruptly fired people with little to no notice and with little heads up to the appropriate teams. This either happened or it didn't. Disagree makes no sense.
"The VPs have also never stayed for too long, and the only one that did is a backstabbing bootlicker who the CTO relies on because he's in way over his head and thinks the VP knows what he's talking about. Learn some intelligence please.
Btw, any Axoni employee here? It's a small company. Probably not.
