I have an offer from Axon (L8 position - Senior Firmware engineer) & qcom (senior software engineer) I am leaning towards Axon because the team/work looks interesting... For qcom I will have to relocate to San Diego... Axon is remote I will really appreciate any pointers in negotiations Thanks in advance Edit: qcom RSU is 100k/4 years... TC : 🥜 #axon #offer #evaluation #engineering #software
What's the location & how many YOE do you have? The RSUs from QCOM seem really great. Are you sure they are 100k per year? It's much higher than average for the senior level.
San Diego & 8 years... 100k spread across 4 years is what the recruiter said..
That's more believable. You should update the offer so that it's only RSUs per year & the TC calculated will be accurate. Ask your recruiter what's the bonus %, including what % of people have been hitting the target bonus & what % of the target bonus do people actually get. Btw, congratulations on the offer. These are great numbers!
100k/4 is 25k per year, that seems low for senior engineer. Which team is this?
What is the usual number?
It would depend on the team, if it’s a core team then you can expect close to 50k a year
What city are you based at out of right now?
Can't be specific but it's HCOL area
San Diego is not cheap. You should do more research and negotiate. Here is a good read: https://codeoffinancy.com/2023/01/29/salary-negotiation-2/
Yeah looks like qcom pay just sucks.
With the updated QC number moving TC way below axon it’s a no brainer. QC is hard work environment. I know 7 people who worked there. Now none do. They had a lot of weekend working. I donno if axon firmware works weekends, but QC is guaranteed to work overtime is my impression.
Ok thanks for your reply... Any insights about how much I can negotiate?
I think levels.fyi is best reference. Is your offer for L8 or L9. And how high is COL where you live?
Qualcomm has an annual bonus too, 9% of base for Sr Engr
I will confirm with my recruiter on this Thank you
