Received an offer from a startup that’s paying roughly 50% of what I made in my previous job. The work will be interesting and the title is pretty cool. But I’m finding it tough to come to terms with this huge pay cut. I got laid offf as an H1B holder. Coz of immigration and the awful market, I have to act fast and I’ll likely accept the offer. I am early career and have a good profile. More than sufficient savings and not married, so I know money shouldn’t be a concern. But I feel exploited. Looking for wisdom from people who have been through similar situations.
Look at ai as an exiting opportunity
Worried what others may think? Worried what future employers will pay you? Don’t. Nobody needs to know. Work like you’re paid the same as your Amazon TC, and then when the job market improves you go back to a high TC company if that’s what you wish. If they ask you for salary expectations and you’re currently making $160k (but used to make $320k) then lie and say you’re currently making 320k. (Better yet, let them name the number)
Take it and keep searching! A bird in hand is worth more than two in the bush !
As long as we stay in the game we will crush it some day 💪

It's an employer market at the moment. You are being lowballed as are most other people. The important thing right now is to survive and then thrive when the job market eventually turns.
