Currently in operations and I’m so burnt out. I’m tired of being on-call, having emergency assignments pop up in the middle of the day and having to complete them by EOD or within 24 hrs, manager pinging me about “emergencies”, and stakeholders pulling at me from all sides. I’ve worked for big tech companies for 4+ years now and I feel like I haven’t had a day to breathe. I’ve had to sacrifice my youth to stay afloat - I’ve turnt down plenty of vacations, relationships with friends, family, and potential partners. I’m single and want a partner but have no time or right headspace to date. And I feel like I have chronic depression and anxiety to the point I cannot nurture relationships outside of work - I’ve tried therapy 10+ times but always fall off or therapist feels they can’t even help me. I feel so stuck and need some hope. For those who left big tech: - What industry did you go to? (Healthcare, government, science, etc.) - Are you happier than when you were in big tech? TC: $170k YOE: 4+
It’s a big decision to leave. Getting back in to big tech is a big task. It’s no joke. Personally, I’m staying until I feel like I’m in a state where I’m stagnant and management won’t promote me.
Cox automotive is big tech? 🤔
@capital one, is workday big tech or cap one?
Wont startup be the same so long as the management is dependent on u?
Moved to Retail eCommerce due to layoffs. The WLB became worse and politics is the worst in this place. So, it's just not the big tech having problems.
It's definitely not as bad in other big tech depending on your team and role. Burnout is common though. Just see all the Blind polls about people hating their jobs.

Can you change teams? I have a friend at Workday and his team is chill with no oncall.
Yeah I’ve thought of this but there’s been no openings recently aligned to my skill set unfortunately
Well just learn the skills that are needed for the chill team.
