Is good work-life balance achievable at Facebook
I'm considering Facebook. By talking to a friend thst works there, it seems like ot is very difficult to avoid being completely consumed by work and his work weeks can easily go into the 70-80. While a higher salary would be nice, maintaining a somewhat passable quality of life is important to me, so i was wondering if it's possible to do that at Facebook or is it a place where you go burn yourself out for a very high salary then move somewhere else?
It depends on the team, but in my experience I work about 25 hours in the office and another 10-15 split between the shuttle and home.
I don’t think super relaxed work life balance is that common here but as long as you stay out of certain orgs / teams, you’ll definitely be able to avoid 70-80 hour work weeks. 40-45 is totally normal on most teams.

How is the WLB for contractors/temp engineers at FB? Are they pressurized too?
If you’re not ambitious and don’t want to grow fast, you can get by with normal WLB. Most people I work with are very ambitious so working overtime is something that comes with it.

Possible. You just gotta set boundaries (like hours, workload) and say no when people try to push them
Do the math. Nobody works 10 hours a day every day of the week. How can you believe that bull?
Op you are talking about being swe at fb?
If you are talking about swe role, it's possible to get MA/MM (below avg to avg) rating by doing 40-45h/w. If you want to get higher rewards or promo, you will need to grind 55h+ easily. So, negotiate a lucrative RSU and then come in for avg reviews..
it depends on so many more things other than the time spent. I know people that got GE and promos with 40 hrs and people that got MMs with 60 hrs.
Who are you talking to? What department? Most folks I know in PM or PMM work 40 hour weeks
yup, decent wlb here as well ~ 30 hours per week with great ratings.
