Hello people, I'm working for an MNC in a techno leadership role, currently in Europe (permanent resident) but, have a valid H1B and old EB2 P.D. from the year 2006. My question to you all: "Is it worth going after GC which might just be 2 years away if I decide to move or just continue here in Europe". I believe a lot has changed in the States when I compare it to what it was back then. I am not a leet code person but have more technology breadth, architecture, and strategy experience. I am not sure if I need to start again as a coder on H1B. Our motivation to thinking to move back to States is close family ties. P.S.: In Europe - mediocre salaries, language problems, very high taxes, and high home prices but, free healthcare, basic retirement pension, jobless benefits, and totally free education for kids. #h1b #greencard #eb2 #europe #cloud #data #architectsalary #advisory #faang #leetcode
Thank you so much for the overwhelming response. The majority vote says that I should pursue the GC. Interesting that a few of them suggested India as well. Interesting!!!
Not the UK. Another 4-5 years for citizenship. I must also invest in learning the language which I am not very keen on. By the time, I get citizenship, will be close to the 50s. If I move to the USA after that, I will only see work permits and immigration in my timeline :) What a life.
For me it depends on where in Europe are you right now. If in Germany, France, UK, Belgium, Switzerland or Netherlands I would stay in Europe. Even if in Scandinavia and the weather doesnโt trouble you anymore I would stay in Europe.
Definitely better quality of life and food. Work-life balance is great. Can't complain about that. There are pros and cons of public healthcare. Especially, the current vaccine situation is a joke. But, these things don't matter much. We can find peace everywhere. It is just a matter of our choices. Everyone is so crazy about immigration that there won't be any family ties left in India by the time I retire. Maybe this is the case with most of us in this group. We made our choice that we will pursue GC and if things don't go as planned, we will migrate to India. Maybe there will be more remote opportunities by then. Hoping for the best.
