Newly disclosed data released yesterday by the Department of Labor shows thousands of recent H1-B foreign worker visas requested by firms that just underwent massive layoffs this year, including Facebook/Meta Platforms, Amazon, Zoom, Salesforce, Microsoft, and Palantir. WTF??? https://www.leefang.com/p/big-tech-resumed-hiring-foreign-workers
This is extremely misleading. No new workers are being brought in. H1B is being filled for existing employees who are on another visa status like F1 OPT, L1, L2, H4 EAD, O1, J1, TN etc.

Stop being racist.
You expect journalists to have a brain ...
They do and they used it wisely to filter the news so they get more TRP
But it does not matter. It's all about the narrative feeding your own biases. That's the problem with American folk lack of critical thinking by majority of the folks
What is the problem here ?
Narrative to showcase h1b stealing American jobs. But it's just a false narrative.
@paypal but they laid off people with h1-b as well didn't they?
Lol. No Big Tech hire someone on new H1B petition since they have to wait for Oct 1st to start employment. Most of these new petitions are for existing employees on different Visa (F1, L1, L2, H4 etc.) For consulting companies- it’s different story.
Where is the evidence to show this?
Go request FOIA with USCIS
Does that include renewals and transfers?
Why is this surprising?
They fired highly paid folks not on visa to bring people for less from other countries ? Lot of companies did not need layoffs, but they did it to please wall street and used it as a cover to do whatever they wanted.

There are many cases where these companies move employees to an H1B status. For example students on OPT. Even those on O visa. Don't judge a book by its cover.
L1 employees too. And these are not someone who is joining after H1, already existing employees who managed to survive the layoff.
Exactly misheo some people are just transferring from one US employer to another one. So any US citizen has equal opportunity to compete with them cause they both will have to go through same interview process.
